FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
The wire crochet looks delicate. Is it strong? It only looks delicate. As an intricate construct, the wire is quite strong. I’ve had pieces for years, and they have stood the test of time. On occasion, when a repair is necessary, it is usually simple.
What kind of metal is used?Copper is easy to crochet, so I use a copper core wire that is either fine silver-plated or has a metallic finish to achieve the vintage look. I also use steel because of the industrial look of it.
Will the copper turn me green?I rarely use bare copper wire, which can turn the skin green. The wire I use has a finish on it, so no greenage occurs!
I’m sensitive to metals. What other metals do you use?The earwires and chain I use are typically nickel-free steel or brass. I offer niobium earwires and other options for those with sensitivities. A small fee applies.
Where did the name Watergirl come from?I grew up near the coast, and it lives in my soul. I love any kind of water. I’m also a Cancer, and I love to swim. The name just came to me one day, as I searched for something catchy and relevant. When I’m 80, I’ll still be a water girl.
Do you do custom work?YES. I have created many custom pieces. Time permitting, I create 2-3 samples for someone to choose from.
Can you lengthen or shorten pieces?I can easily lengthen pieces with chain links. Certain pieces, I can shorten, and others I cannot; but I don’t mind creating a custom piece that fits you better.
How does your jewelry hold up to weather? The copper wire is fine; but I do not recommend activities like swimming in it or rough sports. Also, the wire color may fade if your jewelry is left in direct sunlight [a car dashboard, for ex.] for a few hours. Like any jewelry, it should be treated with care. The steel pieces should be kept dry to prevent rust…unless you like the rusty look like me!
